Abstract

The farm practice was done at the Bureau of Plant Industry-Los Baños National Crop Research, Development and Production Support Center (BPI-LBNCRDPSC) from June to August 2015. The farm practice aimed to document and evaluate the production practices and post-harvest activities involved in mungbean production through actual participation in on-farm activities. The student was also able to document the activities through photo-documentation and note-taking. Analysis of the problems encountered by the Center in the production of mungbean was presented using SWOT Analysis. Development of high yielding varieties of mungbean is the major strength of the production in the Center and can ensure high profit. However, lack of farm workers is a constraint in achieving optimum efficiency in the production due to lack of work force. Failure of farm workers to follow safety precautionary measures during application of pesticides could be a threat to the health of the farm workers and residents living within the Center?s vicinity. It is recommended that there must be additional labor in mungbean production in order to achieve optimum efficiency. Also, investment in safety gears such as masks and goggles must be done in order to ensure general safety. Analysis of profitability of the mungbean production was evaluated using Cost and Return Analysis. Results showed that for 1 ha of land, mungbean production has 52.52 % ROI. Production of mungbean in the Center is profitable and can be recommended to farmers interested in producing mungbean. The objectives of the farm practiced were met by the student through the help of staff in the Center especially farm workers who shared their time and expertise in mungbean production.
