Abstract
The groundbreaking commercialization of electric lighting in 1979 has eased the everyday lives of individuals around the world and led to innovations that seek for human conveniences. The discovery of light switches is one of these, in which it supported the spread of electric lighting. Breakthroughs in technology are still evident until today in search for solutions to problems faced by the people everyday. On a survey conducted, it was found out that 76% have experienced confusion in switching the right switch for a particular light source. Approximately 64% people from the sample switch lights for more than 4 times a day, indicating a more frequent encounter with the problem of confusion. A product concept of a light switch that can be arranged according to a lighting's layout was introduced and 88% said that they are interested in the product. The customer needs on light switches showed that the main feature they look for in the product is its ability to indicate the on and off status of the lighting, followed by its affordability. A prototype of the design, with te name Slide Switch, from the product concept was created and validated to users for its usability. The result of the test showed that the product is feasible and effective with an average score of 3.285, which is above satisfactory level.
