Abstract

Maquiling Achool Incorporated (MSI), a private educational institution located inside the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) campus is about to be relocated in Brgy. Paciano Rizal, a barangay of the nearby town, Bay. The relocation of MSI is expected to have an impact in the condition of the transportation system of its relocation area. Hence, there is a need to assess the impact and come up with plans and strategies to mitigate the transportation problems associated with its relocation. Determining the travel demand and understanding the travel pattern of MSI constituents can serve as first step. In this study, an O-D survey was conducted to obtain data on the socio-demographic and trip characteristics of MSI constituents and its visitors. It was found that MSI caters about 30 barangays. Presently, the combined daily travel demand for both MSI constituents and non-constituents is 1038 trips. 23.51% of these trips comes from Brgy. Batong Malake where the school is located. Assuming similar conditions, the projected travel demand of the school 5 years after its relocation to Brgy. Paciano Rizal is 1163 trips. Arrival of this trips to MSI starts at 6 am and peks within 7am and 8am. In the afternoon, outgoing trips become recognizable at 3pm and peaks within 5pm to 6pm. The primary transportation modes used are jeepneys, service vans and private cars.
