Abstract

highly urbanized Metro Manila causes nearby suburban municipalities' traffic problems. Lack of research data needed to improve transportation may cause serious problems for these municipalities in the future. This study assesed the present and projected levels of service (LOS) of Manila north Road-Narra Street intersection in Bocaue, Bulacan, Philippines. The intersection is a three-leg unsignalized intersection with major and minor approach having 2 and 1 directional lanes respectively. Using Synchro 6.0, the intersection was analyzed for both morning and afternoon peak hour periods with tricycles observed to contribute largest equivalent volume. Simulation of collected data resulted in LOS F for all three scenarios considered (Two-way Stop Controlled, All-Way Stop Controlled and Signalized Intersection). Four intersection modification models were simulatedwith their future volume projected using the traffic growth rate provided by the DPWH. Results showed general improvements in LOS of the intersection but still unsatisfactory Level of Service in at least one approach for most of the modifications considered. Among these models, addition of both left and right turns is the most feasible choice to improve the present intersection LOS.
