Abstract

Comparative Economic Analysis of Coffee Production in Amadeo and Indang, Cavite was conducted using methods such as the comparison of input use, coffee yield, profitability, and economic efficiency. The analysis was used to determine the type of coffee product form that coffee farmers are better off with. The results would compare the economic benefits of the coffee farmers in both municipalities with respect to their management practices and diversification of coffee production. The results of the study were based on the data obtained from 30 coffee farmers who were randomly selected in Amadeo and 30 coffee farmers who were randomly selected in Indang, during the last production cycle of 2016. Secondary data from the journals, theses and internet were also gathered to further explain the production stages and management practices of coffee. The study analyzed the economic efficiency of coffee farmers through the use of costs and return analysis, partial budget analysis and Data Envelopment Analysis. The study found out that coffee farmers in Indang had lower input use relative to those of Amadeo. However, farmers in Indang are more economically efficient in producing dried coffee beans than those in Amadeo. On the other hand, coffee farmers who produce different product forms would positively affect the coffee farmers and the coffee industry. It could give way to increase the profit of the farmers and improve the productivity of the coffee.
