Abstract

Concrete is essential in the construction industry nowadays. It is composed of cement, aggregates, and water. Of these components, cement is the most costly, At present, there is an increasing trend in the demand of cement, therefore, a necessity to find ways to maximize its usage. Many studies have been made to maximize the use of concrete , admixtures are sometimes used in order to achieve certain properties required. This study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the addmix plus admixture in terms of strength, cost, and workability of concrete. Addmix plus admixture that is added to the concrete mix or at least maintain its strength while increasing the amount of aggregates in the mix, therefore, increasing the volume yield of concrete without increasing the amount of cement and water. This study focused on 0%, 25% and 50% addition of aggregates to the traditional mix with curing periods of 7, 14, and 28 days. The study found out that using the addmix plus admixture and increasing the amount of aggregates will still yield an acceptable value of compressive strength and a workable mix. Also, application of the study will reduce expenses in production of concrete. However, no optimum percent increase of aggregates can be said since the results of the compressive strength test yielded diverse results.
