Abstract
The study includes calibrating the Gravity model, and projecting trips using the calibrated model and the Fratar method up to 30 years, assuming constant socio-economic conditions and spatial separation. Actual data was used to calibrate the model. The sampling technique of the survey was done using stratified random sampling and with 95% confidence level. The socio-economic factor in the gravity model was expressed as a function to enable planners to predict future trips given with changing socio-economic conditions. In this study, the socio-economic factor function, that is assumed to be effective for all zonal trips, was obtained by multiple linear regression. Assumptions in regression analysis were checked by performing the following tests: linear functional form, zero mean if disturbance, correlation of regressors to error, homoscedasticity, non-autocorrelation, normality, and multicollinearity. Using the origin-destination data, it was found that the nature of attraction and generation trips of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) employees lie on their work classification. Also, the model was used to project the trips in the future considering the growth rate of the UPLB employee population (for the calibrated model), and DPWH's trip growth rate (for Fratar method). Implications on National Highway, Jamboree Road, Institution of Plant Breeding Road, and Lopez Avenue were discussed.
