Abstract
The design of the proposed PV/diesel hybrid system project in Sabang, Palawan was evaluated. HOMER Legacy version 2.68 beta 2012 software was used to stimulate different scenarios for the PV/diesel hybrid system, specifically with and without storage. The simulation results for the different modes of operation were analyzed. Based from the results, the addition of energy storage in the system decreased the excess electricity from 26.3% to 9.48%. In addition, it increased the PV share from 54% to 63%. Meanwhile, it decreased the operating time of the generators from 18 hours to 13 hours. As a result, the greenhouse gas emission decreased by 31%. The PV/diesel hybrid system operation accounting for the load growth for the year 2013 to 2017 was also evaluated. A 3.06% increase in load demand was used for the year 2013 to 2017. Due to the increase in load demand, the excess energy gradually decreased and shortened the duration that the battery could supply energy. In effect, there was an increase in the power supplied by the generators. Overall, even with an increase in load, the results showed that the system could still meet the load requirement of the area for the year 2013 to 2017.
