Abstract
A 35-day feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary addition of calcium formate on body weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio, percent livability and carcass yield of broilers. A total of 240 straight run commercial broiler chicks (Cobb®) were randomly distributed into two dietary treatments arranged in completely randomized design (CRD). Each treatment was replicated 10 times with 12 birds per replicate in a cage. The supplement used in the study was an organic acid salt, calcium formate (Latibon®) which was mixed with corn-soybean meal based diets at a rate of 0.3% of the starter diet and 0.1% of the grower and finisher diets. The supplemented broilers showed significantly better feed efficiency by 11% and an increased in income over feed and chick costs by 18% relative to the unsupplemented group. No significant differences were observed in the live body weight, weight gain, livability, carcass yield (dressing percentage and breast meat yield) of supplemented and unsupplemented broilers. Diet supplementation with calcium formate (Latibon®) improved broiler production and increased profitability.
