Abstract
The modified procedure devised by Imai and Kubota (1972) was used to prepare C-metaphase brain preparation of Apis cerana F. drone pupa. Results obtained on the somatic chromosome number (n=16) confirmed earlier reports. Samples from Bicol gave relative chromosome length from 0.16 - 1.00 and relative are ratio values ranging from 1..8 - 3.80. Chromosomes observed were classified under metacentric, sub-metacentric and telocentric. Average relative length of chromosomes from samples obtained from Quezon ranged from 0.12 - 1.00 while their average relative are ratio ranged from 1.01 - 2.91. chromosome observed included submetacentric and metacentric. No significant differences were obtained among chromosmes of A. cerana F. from both localities. These similarities may be attributed to samples having the same lineage.
