Abstract

Using logit regression model, the study examined the factors that influence teachers to migrate and seek better employment opportunities abroad. Using a structured survey- questionnaire, 192 teachers from Quezon City were selected through a stratified-random sampling. Based on findings, 122 out of 192 teachers were willing to migrate and work abroad. Most of them teach Math, Science, and English and came from public schools. Five variables were found to be significant, namely, the subject taught, grade level, known salary abroad, educational attainment and age. Age was inversely related with the migration intention of teachers; as age increases, migration intention decreases. The rest were positively related to migration decision. A teacher who teaches Math/Science/English, has attained masters/doctorate degree, and is teaching at high school level is more likely to migrate. Likewise, a high expected salary abroad also induces them to work abroad.
