Abstract
The under representation of women in economic discourse and research has resulted to the emergence of a new field called feminist economics. According to this emerging field, the mainstream economics is gender blind. Using feminist lens in analyzing economic events which have implications for women, the plight and issues confronting women are now made more visible and are given paramount importance. The paper presents the various critiques of feminist scholars, covering a wide-range of topics like intra-household allocation, unpaid work and women’s situation in the labor market. A gender analysis framework was adopted to examine feminist views on the whole economy and to economic thought itself. Though the relatively new field has uncovered the biases present in economics, it is still hardly known to many economists since feminist economics also employ existing the neoclassical framework for their analysis, though there are some who are working on to build empirical tools that will best suit their research purpose.
