Abstract
Linguistics as a constituent of language, manifest an imperative relationship to language itself, which in turn is vital in the overall assumption of culture. Moreover, linguistic features of folk tradition relate to the entirety of culture, since it is an excellent medium of studying value system and the rest of the components that make culture. This study aims to look into the four selected folksongs of the Talaandig tribe in Bukidnon. An analysis inclusive on the linguistic features of the song, which include phonology, morphology, morphophonemics, syntax and semantics, is deemed to determine traces of culture, of which values are a part of. Data gathering, a part of shich are interviews with key informants, participant-observations technique and second hand research was implored. Linguistic analysis guided by linguistic rules and principles including contextual analysis to further extract values, followed. Based on the results of the study, linguistic verses of the four selected folksongs serve as an effective communicative tool for values to be instilled.
