Abstract

This study identified the significant factors that affect the probability of loan renewal in the microfinance program of the Municipality of Sto. Tomas in Batangas. Specifically it described the guidelines and operation of the program. Logistic regression was used to determine the significant factors that affect the probability of loan renewal. A total of 60 respondents from the total number of borrowers were randomly selected from the survey. The turn out of loan renewal in the program was low. Only 20 percent of the total beneficiaries decided to renew their loans. There is no significant difference on socio-demographic characteristics and household characteristics on groups with and without loan renewal. It was found out from the regression analysis that age and years of education increases the probability of renewing loan. On the other hand, borrower transaction cost decreases the probability of renewing loan from the microfinance program.
