Abstract

Traffic congestion, crowded mass transportations, and pollution have always been a problem in Metro Manila. Because of the ballooning population in the region and limited road space, most public roads tend to be congested especially during peak hours. The Pasig River Ferry Service is one of the alternative mass transportations available to the public. This study sought to analyze the behavior of the consumers of the Pasig River Ferry and the factors that affect their preference. It also tried to estimate the savings that the consumers get from the riding the ferry. Utilization of the ferry as well as the benefits and problems encountered by the ferry users were also studied. A total of 100 respondents were included in the study, 86 are Pasig River Ferry users. Most of the respondents are female and employed. On the average, commuters are benefited through cost savings due to fare differential, value of time saved, and comfort during the trip. It was found out that there is a significant positive relationship between cost savings and the preference for the Pasig River Ferry. One of the main problems mentioned by the respondents is the irregular schedule during weekends.
