Abstract
To evaluate the hybrid rice milling of SL Agritech Corporation located in Sta.Cruz Laguna, Philippines, the trainee observed and compared the management and operations inside the corporation based on the standards used in the Philippines. The site was chosen because it is known to be one of the leading hybrid rice procedures in the Philippines. The parameters used to evaluate the rice milling operations were the milling recovery (MR), head rice recovery (HR) and the grade of the milled rice. Other data gathered within the duration of the field practice were the machines composing the rice mill, the company's manufacturing practices as well as the environment engineering assessment. On the average, the MR in the mill was observed to be 64.33% which has a small discrepancy to the 65% MR requirement for commercial millers which was according to IRRI While the HR is 51.08% is lower than the required 55% HR for commercial millers. In terms of the quality of the milled rice it is categorized as premium rice based on its moisture content with an average of 13.70% which is less than the required mc of 14% for milled rice. The amount of chalky and damaged grains obtained are 1.82% and 0%, respectively and conforms to be required maximum amount of 2% chalky and 0% damaged grains established by NFA. This further supported the company's claim of producing premium quality hybrid rice. A sensory evaluation was also observed by the trainee during the field practice which also aided in the assessment of the company's finished product. The trainee concluded that the rice mail operation and management being observed by the company conforms to the standards being observed in the the country.
