Abstract

According to World Health Organization (WHO) health is one way of fighting poverty, since healthy workers would provide better outputs. The government is believed to be the sole provider of health care services to the people. However, there were rumors of insufficient spending and improper allocation of resources in health. The assessment of the local government health expenditures in Masbate Province vis- a- vis its health and nutritional status is the study’s primary objective. Particularly, the study intended to: 1) present, analyze, and discuss the trend of health care expenditures of the provincial government and three selected municipalities; 2) determine the percentage of LGU’s income allotted to health services; 3) assess the trend of health status for both the province and the municipalities; and 4) relate health expenditures with health and nutritional status of the province and selected municipalities. The study used descriptive, tabular, graphical, and correlation analysis to analyze all the secondary data from different offices in Masbate Province and selected three municipalities. Results of the study showed the trend of income, health expenditures in the Province and the selected municipalities. Moreover, the health status performance of the Province was presented and compared with the health expenditures made by the government. Correlation between the variables in the study showed that income and expenditure are highly correlated with health expenditure and health indicators but not for the nutritional indicator.
