Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the factors which might influence the decision of households in Batangas to purchase private life insurance policies. The primary data that were obtained using the survey and interview methods were analyzed using logistic and ordinary least squares regressions. Furthermore, descriptive and statistical analyses were used to construct the economic, social, and demographic profile of the policy holders. The logit regression for this study considered parameters such as annual household income, price of the policy or premium, household size or number of family members, location or residential area, and the presence of public and/or other types of insurance. Based on the regression results, the income, price and residence variables seem to have statistically significant relationships with the probability of private life insurance procurement. Separate regressions were also run for the rural and urban areas, which suggest that only the income variable is statistically significant. Ordinary least squares method was used to determine the households’ willingness to pay for private life insurance policies. Rationales for purchasing the said policy were also discussed.
