Abstract

The varying amounts of shade did not affect the time of germination of cacao seeds but greatly influenced the percentage of germination. Seeds planted under varying degrees of shade gave significantly higher percentage of germination than the control. The highest percentage of germination was obtained at three-fourth shade.

Seedling under one-fourth shade and one-half shade had the same trunk diameter but had significantly larger diameter than the three-fourth and fully shaded seedlings. one-half shade treatment had a definite influence on the height of the seedlings. The seedlings under one-half shade had significantly wider and longer leaves than those under the other treatments.
