Abstract

Twenty varieties of sugarcane were tested for sensitivity to Polaris (C. P. 41845) and Ethrel (Ethepon) under field conditions purposely slanted in favor of growth.

Co 997 and Phil 62-120 were responsive to both chemicals at the second week from spraying. CAC 57-13 was responsive to Ethrel from the 6th to the 8th week while only at the 6th week to Polaris. Phil 56-226, Phil 58-260, and Phil 64-23 were responsive to Ethrel at the 2nd, 4th, and from the 4th to the 8th week, respectively. Phil 64-25 was responsive to Polaris alone at the 2nd week., Only Phil 64-25 and CAC 57-13 showed the greater responsive to Polaris.

A simple correlations test showed that brix is better correlated with leaf total sugars and reducing sugars that can leaf sucrose.
