Abstract

Saikeiseisin, a variety of ramie (Boehmeria nivea Linn.) fertilized with ammonium sulfate at the rate of 90,135, 180-, 225, 270, 315, and 360 kilograms to a hectare, tended to grow taller as the amount of fertilizer was increased. The application of ammoniun sulfate had no reccomended effect on the branching of the stems. All the treated plots yielded significantly more fibers and more stools than the control. The rate of fertilization did not significantly affect the tensile strength of the fiber.
