Abstract

The effectiveness of using substituted urea herbicides for controlling weeds in sorghum were evaluated in experiments conducted at the Central Experiment Station, U. P. College of Agriculture from July to January, 1968.

Pre-emergence sprays of monuron, diuron, aresin, and afalon at the rates of 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 3.0 kilograms active materials per hectare reduced seed germination and survival counts of sorghum plants. No herbicides were found to have potentials as per-emergence herbicides for the crop.

Monuron, diuron, aresin, and afalon were detrimental to unestablished buds of sorghum ratoon crop. Aresin sprayed at a lower concentration showed mild effects.

Aresin has potentials as post-emergence herbicides for sorghum ratoon crop. Monuron and afalon showed good weed control out caused severe crop injury at the early stage of its growth.
