Abstract

The computed yields of six college Yellow-Cuban double crosses ranged from 59.9 to 68.8 cavans to a hectare; those of six diverese double crosses, from 64.0 to 74.0 cavans to a hectare; and those of the three checks (College Yellow, Cubao, and Open-pollinated Cuban), 45.9 to 57.8 cavans to a hectare. All the diverse double crosses (one or two inbred lines of foreign origin) and four of the Yellow-Cuban double crosses gave yields which were significantly more than the average yield (51.6 cavans) of three checks. Hybrid (I 93 x I 94) (A110xA112) had the highest yield, 74.0 cavans to a hectare, which was 43.4 percent more than the average yield of the three check varieties.
