Abstract

Although lettuce is a cool season crop, studies showed that leaf can be grown fairly well in warm temperature.

The crisp-heading varieties, New York and Progress, were found to have good yields. Slobolt, a loose-leaf variety had the lowest yield. Although the heading varieties failed to head, the eating quality of the leaves was good, though somewhat coarse. Based on the average mean yield to a plot, the yields to the different varieties ranged from 6.63 to 15.14 tons per hectare.
