Abstract

The practicum was conducted during the semestral break of school year 1999-2000 at San Lorenzo Feedmills, Inc. Sta Lucia, Magarao Camarines Sur Bikol. The training has provided the student relevant and sufficient insights on the operations involved in the production of mash feeds. Actual involvement has been done in the areas of production, marketing, sales and distribution. Series of observation and interviews have been managed in the aspects of financing and accounting, personnel, and procurement of raw material and supplies. The study was conducted to actually gain first-hand experiences on the operations involved in the production of mash feeds and to be able to write about these experiences, to compare these actual activities undertaken with the standard practices and be able to explain the deviation, to identify the constraints and opportunities the company is faced with, to come up with feasible recommendations for the more efficient operations of the company. Mash feed production involved the following processes namely weighing of raw materials, grinding, weighing of feed ingredients, mixing, sacking, labelling, and sealing. The company conforms to the requirement imposed by the Bureau of Animal Industry on the standards of labeling and nutrient content. However, it does modify its quality control services largely due to the size and the capacity of the feedmill. The SWOT analysis revealed that San Lorenzo Feedmill, Inc. has competitive advantages in terms of proximity, accessibility, and resource capacity. However, there were existing problems that need to be resolved ardently like personnel tardiness and inefficient performance of the workers. The recommendations addressed the company's critical problem in personnel. It proposed a recruitment process and tools in evaluating job performance to motivate the employees. The student experienced actual involvement in production especially on how to operate the machines and the process of milling feeds. He learned that the company do not advertise their products however, its salesman looks for prospective buyers. The company image is very important since any violation by the company will lead the buyers to shift to other manufacturers.
