Abstract

CAC 57-11, an upright cane, showed the best stand at harvest. CAC 57-76 had very much longer and bigger stalks (374.0 cms. and 2.5 cms., respectively) than any of the other entries. All college bred entries were superior in tillering habits to the standard (H37-1933). CAC 57-2 and CAC 37-11 had better juice purities than the other entries, while all the college-bred clones gave higher quality ratios (PS/TC) than H 37-1933. Percentage of sucrose (Pol.) in the juice cane yield to a hectare, and sugar yield to a hectare were essentially the same for all the entries. CAC 57-2 and CAC 57-11, both maturing in 12 months, flowered profusely, while CAC 57-76 and H37-1933, which matured in 14 months, flowered sparsely.
