Abstract
A field experiment was conducted at the University of the Philippine Central Experiment Station from May 1983 to February 1984 with the main objective of determining the apparent biomass yield of sugarcane field as influenced by two levels of fertilization (high 200-200-600 and low levels 100-100-300) and duration of weed competition (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 weeks after planting).
The difference in biomass yield between the two levels of fertilization was not significant. Sugarcane biomass yield was significantly affected by the duration of weed competition. There was an exponential decrease in sugarcane biomass yield with extended duration of weed competition.
Weed biomass yield about 15-17 t/ha was noted to be critical for the production of sugarcane biomass. this critical weed biomass yield was attained at about 7 to 8 weeks after planting.
