Abstract
Seven selections of IPB Var 1 and a hybrid check were evaluated for grain yield and other agronomic characteristics to determine the process of improvement.
Among the selections, IPB Var 1 Cycle 3 produced the highest average grain at 5.65 tone per hectare. The other top yielders were IPB Var 1 Cycle 2, IPB Var 1 (Vary short) Cycle 4, and IPB Var 1 (Medium) Cycle 4, with an average grain yield of 5.52, 5.47 and 5.56 tons per hectare, respectively. IPB Var 1 with only one cycle of selection yielded 4.87 tons per hectare only.
There were no roots that are considered lodged but minimal stalk lodging were observed on some plants especially among the tall variety.
There were no roots that are considered lodged but minimal stalk lodging were observed on some plants especially among the tall variety.
Yield was positively associated with the number of plants harvested. Plant height, days to silking, and ear length exhibited negative association with grain yield.
