Abstract

Intercropping with legumes reduced the vigor of sugarcane of sugarcane and its yield of millable stalks, resulting in reduced tonnage per hectare. Intercropping with cowpea for pods slightly increased purity of the cane juice; thus, giving a higher quality ratio (PS/TC), but intercropping with cowpea for seeds and bush sitao for pods and for seeds affected juice purity adversely.

Among the legume intercrops, bush sitao planted for seeds gave the highest income of P1,770.00 per hectare; for the overall gross income from the sugar cane-legume intercrops, the sugar cane-mungo combination had the highest value of P5,753.10. second to the control which had a gross value of P6,952.66.

Intercropping legumes with sugar cane reduced the prevalence of weeds between the cane rows.
