Abstract

The physical properties of fibers from eight varieties of abaca (Musa textiles Nee) were tested to determine their commercial potentialities.

Varieties Magsarapong, Lagonoy, Linawaan, Samoro, Tiwagang Puti, and Alman compared favorably with variety Puti, a recognized commercial variety. Fibers of Alinsanay Pula were highly significantly weaker but finer, narrower and more elastic than those of other varieties.

Balones fibers were highly significantly weaker, coarser and boarder but less elastic than tuxy fibers. These properties accounted for the low quality of balones fibers.
