Abstract

Transplanted plants were outyielded by the directly seeded plants in the seeding methods tried in both the Milfor 6(2) and Peta varieties, except in direct seeding by broadcast of Peta were the yield was close to that of the transplanted. Directly seeded plants, irrespective of the methods of seeding employed, were taller at harvest than the transplanted ones for both varieties, However, the former lodged earlier than the latter. Plants in the direct seeding methods flowered earlier and produced longer panicles than those in the transplanted method.
