Abstract

Lighting is one of the biggest consumers of the electrical energy being generated. But as time goes by, the demand for electricity becomes higher and requires greater amount of money and resources. However, the scarcity in resources and continuous oil price increase in the international market becomes a problem in meeting the increasing demand. Due to this, different programs and administrative orders are formed. In the Philippines, one of the programs is the Administrative order No.183 or the "Palit-ilaw Program" which requires all the government facilities to change their present lamps to an efficient one. But aside from changing lamps, it is also important to determine if the lamps still satisfy the illuminance requirement for the specific function of the room. The efficiency of the lighting system should also be taken into account. In this study, the lighting system was analyzed first by assessing if the number of luminaires installed was satisfied based on its illuminance requirement using zonal cavity or lumen method. Then, the amount of illuminance present was measured using the sensor which was then scaled to its equivalent lux value.The measured values helped in making the guidelines for the usage of lights. At the end of the study, it was found out that the lighting system of lecture rooms is not efficient since the number of luminaire can be reduced to 4 if the lamps to be used are under the Super 80 colour based on the recommendation of Philips. Also, regrouping the switch branch of lamps should be considered since there are areas that do not require lights but due to the present switch branching, the lights are turned on.
