Abstract

A two-season study was conducted in 1967 at Paoay, Atok, Benguet Province to evaluate the yield performance of ten promising foreign potato varieties.

The varieties testes include Arka, CB 52-105-9, Dijkhuis 52-211, Gineke, Isola, Multa, Patrones, Red Pontiac, Sientje, and Spartaan in randomized complete block design replicated three times and analyzed as split block with season as main plot and variety as sub-plot.

Yields of marketable and non-marketable tubers differed significantly by season in favor of the dry season. Red Pontiac yielded the most, 24.3 ton/ha during the dry season. However, Isola and Dijkhuis 52-211 were the heaviest yielders during the wet season, 3.9 tons/ha and 3.62 tons/ha, respectively.

The percentage of No. 1's was higher in the dry season than in the wet season. However, the wet season crop gave a higher percentage of No. 3's. The percentage of No. 2's was significant between varieties but insignificant between season.

Seed vitality or vigor a month after planting was the same in both seasons. However, vigor at harvest was better during the dry season than in the wet season.
