Abstract

The highest yield of dry fiber was obtained from plants harvested 123 days after planting. At this stage the plants were in full bloom and were already bearing 8 to 10 capsules, the bark ribbons could still be easily separated from the wood.

The fibers obtained from plants harvested 103, 113, and 123 days after planting had more or less the same softness, brightness, and luster. Those taken from plants more than 123 days old were dull and very coarse. The strongest fibers were produced by the 123-day-old plants; the weakest, by the 103 and 143-day-old plants.
