Abstract
The study focused on the improvement of processes of preparation and distribution of goods in the Finished Goods Warehouse of Sprint International Inc.(Speedo Philippines). Through observations and analyses of data, it was identified that the primary factor causing the frequent overtime expenditure in Warehouse and Distribution Department (WDD) was the problem on low labor productivity. Low labor productivity was mainly attributed to the causal factors affecting the process of preparing goods, particularly the pick and check operations. Improper manpower allocation in WDD caused idle times to these operations due to unavailability of staff to attend to the task. Since preparation staffs do not have permanent task assignment, they are not limited to performing only one task. In order to address the problem, adjustment of the manpower allocation based on a computed manpower requirement for the two operations was suggested. With the implementation of this proposal, the company can expect an increase of 139% on its productivity. In addition to this, unorganized picklist and unreported stock-outs caused unproductive picks. Replacements of the current picklist and the use of kanbans was proposed to address the problem. With this proposal, the company can save 3.156.20 overtime hours semi-annually and expect an increase in productivity by 63.26%. Lastly, it was also determined that poor layout of the warehouse contributed in causing avoidable delays. (unproductive time). In order to lessen the unproductive time incurred, an improvement of the layout through relocation of facilities was suggested. The improved layout permits smooth process flow and better space for other processes. With this proposed layout improvement, the company can expect as much as 4,629.06 overtime hours savings semi-annually and an increase of 92.77% in its productivity. Overall, implementation of these proposals would have an initial total cost of Php 190,230.00 and a semi -annual cost of Php88,230.00 and in turn, could bring a total of Php442,202.48 labor cost savings and 139% increase in productivity.
