Abstract

Cabbage, lettuce and onion seeds lose their viability in a short time after purchase from seed dealers. This was proven by the initial percentage of germination present in this study. The seeds were kept in three kinds of storage materials; namely, (a) polyethylene envelope heat-sealed (b) ordinary envelope pasted, and (c) ordinary envelope left open. The heat-sealed polyethylene envelope proved to be the best.

The pockets of seeds were kept under three kinds of storage temperature: (a) ordinary temperature, (b) dehumidified room temperature, and (c) refrigerator temperature gave the best results, followed by dehumidified from temperature. Ordinary room temperature gave the poorest result.

Based on the results of the study, it is recommend that seeds should be packeted in heat-sealed polyethylene envelope and kept under low temperature.
