Abstract

The major practice was conducted at GDJ Farm in San Roque, San Pablo City and San Benito, alaminos, Laguna from April 20 to May 28, 2003. It provides the students to have knowledge and hands-on experience in the operation and management of the farm while employing the knowledge acquired from the university. Technical analysis was based on the observations done on the farm and evaluation of management practices. The major practice helps a lot in gaining practical skills while working on an actual poultry environment and self-confidence while personally in the various operational activities. The farm is in contact growing scheme, currently receiving contacts from Vitarich Corporation and San Miguel Foods Inc. Production parameters such as FCR, average body weight and mortality rate are the bases for economic evaluation. Farm 1, the main farm have grown Cobbs strain of meat type chicken from Vitarich Corporation. Production performance includes: FCR is 2.00, average body weight is 1.6 kg. and mortality rate is 10.6% Farm 2 has grown Arbor Acres from San Miguel Foods Inc. With production performance of the following FCR is 1.77, average body weight is 1.650 kg. and mortality rate of 5.5%. the exposure to this specialized venture of poultry production gave the opportunity to gain more practical knowledge in managing broiler chicken.
