Abstract
The study was conducted at Kanepackage Phils. Inc. in the Light Industry and Science Park II at Real, Calamba. It is a manufacturing and designing plant of packaging and cushioning materials mostly for electronic and automotive companies. Since the company has numerous, the demand for the product is high. The production area has a high level of overtime hours and inventory just to satisfy the demand of the customer. The study aims to establish time standards to come up with the scheduling design, build an information system and develop the materials used to improve the cost efficiency of the cost generated from overtime in the Die Cut Area. the study came up with the scheduling technique that would control or reduce the overtime hours generated in the Die Cut Area. The time study was done to compute for the processing times of the different items in the Die Cut Area that would be used to formulate the scheduling design. After, the scheduling design was generated it was compared to the actual procedure of the company to look into the savings and benefits that can be earned. The Die Cut Area was the area studied since the operations done in the area are mostly labor-intensive. The Die Cut Area has four sections The die cut machine/section, the Detach section, Assemble Section and the Bundle Section. Since the Die Cut Area process a wide variety of products only items are within the 80% of the Pareto Chart by Volume of the items was studied. Time and Motion Study was first conducted to determine the standard time of the items in the different sections. The standard time would be used as the basis to compute for the processing time of the item in a section. Three scheduling techniques, Dynamic, Programming-based Schedule, K-Exchange Move Schedule and the modified Johnson's Rule, were used and evaluated. The K-Exchange Move was the chosen scheduling technique since it gave the smallest completion time. Improvements on information system and materials used were also recommended. If the proposed solutions would be implemented, the company would benefit by up to Php233,628.43. After ten years, the net cash flow could be expected to be Php1,060,279.00.
