Abstract

The major practice was conducted at the TJEI Swine Farm in Brgy. Timbao, Biñan, Laguna from April 20 to May 21, 2008. the objectives of the major practice were: to apply and practice the knowledge gained in the university with regards to supervising a swine farm; to participate in the daily activities; and to be acquainted with the problems commonly encountered in swine industry and offer possible solutions to address these problems. The student was involved in the different management practices such as feeding, vaccination and medication, heat detection, collection and evaluation of semen for artificial insemination, castration, car notching and tail docking. This report provides details of activities done, observations, technical assessment of the farm's management practices problems identified and recommendations.

There were no major problems encountered during the period of major practice. It has been recommended that there should have been regular inspection and proper maintenance of farm infrastructure as well as cleanliness within the area and bio-security been properly implemented for a more efficient production in the farm.
