Abstract
Cronics, Inc. is a Korean-owned company located at the Special Economic Zone (SEZ)-Calamba Premiere Industrial Park (CPIP), Brgy. Batino,Calamba City, Laguna. The company produces plastic injection products which are mainly CD/DVD-ROM plastic components. The company starts of the week with the translation of the weekly forecasts plans, coming from Samsung, into weekly production plans. They do this manually using a set of MS Excel worksheet templates. Forecasts and fixed orders are sent to the company with a 3-day lead time. With the increasing number of different products included in the weekly forecast file, it takes up to 4 hours before the reports are released to the production department. The long processing time decreases further the 3-day lead time. In addition to that, there are errors in the forecast of Samsung giving large differences in the forecasted and fixed values. It currently costs the company an average of Php46,488 annually due to the report generation process. This study conducted to reduce the processing time of the report generation process. Root cause analysis revealed that the main cause of the problem is the limited database automation of the worksheets currently being used and the frequent editing and of the worksheets' formulas. Solutions or alternatives were generated to remove the root cause and these are:Addition of PPIC/Warehouse Personnel in charge of planning, Software Development, Spreadsheet Redesign, and keep current system. Based on the evaluation of alternatives, the best one to choose was spreadsheet redesign since it gave a fast time of 20.14s, at par with those of software development alternative that gave 11.10s processing. This alternative reduced the frequent switching of files for the manual copying and pasting of data. It also minimized the frequent editing of formulas. Implementing the the said alternative will cost the company OhP 48,000, just above the current system annual cost while getting annual savings of PhP6,895.72 due to reduced processing time which may be allocated for further improvement of the system.
