Abstract

An ornamental fish business in Laguna is very viable and attractive venture. The global market is estimated to be worth USS 7.2B and has been growing at a compounding rate of 14% since 1985. The continued growth of this industry is assured with the rise of Asian economics, notably China and India, ensuring a place for a Philippine ornamental fishing industry. According to the Bureau of fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), the Philippine enjoys comparative advantages in terms of climate, natural resources strategic location, labor force, rare species, among others, to become a major market player in marine ornamental fish trading worldwide where the country contributes only 3.8% to the total supply. Furthermore, The high literacy rate and availability of manpower offer vast opportunities for livelihood and other ancillary activities in the development of the industry. The proposed business will require an initial investment of M that can be recovered in as little as thirty-four (34) months. It has an average return of investment (ROI) of 195.22% per year for ten years which highlights this venture. The seventy-five percent of the investment will be loaned from Landbank with 11% interest, to be fully paid in five years. The internal rate of return is computed to be 82%. Solvency and profitability financial measures were also used and further showed the viability of this study.
