Abstract

Walkability studies have been observed mostly in the developed country, improving the knowledge about this topic in the developing world has hardly been observed. This study evaluates the walkability of the municipality of Los Baños, Laguna. It aims to determine the walkability of the area through the macro scale factors of the built environment. These macro scale factors are the distance of the amenities in relation to the residential areas, street connectivity through the intersection density, population density, and the land use mix. These macro scale factors are found to have a significant effect on walkability based on the literature that were done in the other walkability studies. Findings showed that the municipality is considered as least walkable and most of the barangays are considered as car dependent and least walkable which implies that those barangays are hardly accessed by foot. Furthermore, planners and policymakers should continue in making studies related to walkability to create a better plan in making the community a much better place to live in.
