Abstract

Sanwa Electric Philippines, Inc. (SEPI) was established on June 15,1995. Its plant is located in First Cavite Industrial state in Dasmariñas, Cavite. SEPI is a manufacturer of fan motors mainly for heaters, refrigerators and air-conditioners. SEPI faces a problem about scrap on their processes one of which is press stamping-process in the pre-assembly area. This process uses a Silicon steel coil as the material to manufacture motor cores. Press stamping has two major machines. These are the uncoiler where the coil is uncoiled and the mold die which forms the shape of the motor cores. The press stamping process results to cut and skeleton scraps which account for 92.36% of the total cost of abandoned materials in this area which were valued at Php446,322.10. The causes of the scrap problem were identified by using the Ishikawa diagram and CNX analysis. Recommendations made to address causes of controllable factors include: constant reminders a more strict implementation of rules improvising a temporary storage room and a proper training foe newly hired operators. For experimental factors, the recommendations given were: rearranging work allocation plus the installation of visual warning light combining multiple and combination-cavity die on the mold design doubling the coil size and purchasing a scrap compressor. The above recommendations will have an investment cost of Php98,630.92, but it will give the company a set of more disciplined and competitive workers, and an annual savings worth Php216,009 with an NPV of 1,121,868.11.
