Abstract

This cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the association between online food delivery (OFD) usage and nutritional status of sophomore students at UPLB using proportionate stratified sampling and an online self-administered questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and tests of independence were used to assess association at p≤0.05. The study revealed that 61.2% of the respondents had normal nutritional status, while 21.5% were underweight. In terms of OFD usage, most respondents used OFD platforms 1 to 3 times monthly (44.41%), with an average expenditure of <251 pesos per transaction (44.69%). FoodPanda (54.75%) was the most patronized platform. More than half of the respondents had meat or meat-based or meat alternatives (65.92%) as their most frequently purchased category. Convenience was the general rationale for patronizing OFD services. However, no sufficient evidence was obtained regarding the association between OFD usage and nutritional status (p≤0.05). In conclusion, while it was evident that OFD platforms have contributed to the eating habits of sophomore students at UPLB, the acquired data was not enough to prove its relationship to nutritional status. Hence, further investigation would be needed to come up with conclusive findings.
