Abstract

A farm practice to document and analyze the existing agroecosystems in the Baquilan Resettlement Area was conducted in Botolan, Zambales from August to September 1992. Through informal interviews, direct observation and participation, information on the residents’ social groups, culture, profile, agricultural and non-agricultural enterprises, and biophysical environment were documented. The site is generally sloping and has rugged topography. It is mainly inhibited by upland Aetas and beset with problems i.e. lack of water, planting materials, other farm inputs and livelihood to support them. Their farming system is yet to be established. They are basically dependent on the agencies helping them and hence utilize only whatever is given to them. Likewise, their production is unstable and not enough to support them. Sloping Agricultural Land Technology, biointensive gardening, mini-fishpond rotational cropping and others are some of the possible technologies appropriate in the area. Trainings should be done and monitored for efficient implementation of the programs. The Baquilan Resettlement Area should be further and continuously studied for the development of more suitable programs to help uplift the living conditions of the residents.
