Abstract
Comparative test of yield and quality of 9 double-cross hybrids and two open-pollinated varieties showed that (PHS3 X PHS2 (PYS4 X PYS1) had the best eating quality but its yield especially in the 1959-60 dry season was low. (PYS1 X PYS3) (PYS4 X HYS1) which was the highest yielding hybrid in both the 1959 wet season and the 1959-60 dry season tests, had an eating quality rating only about as good as that of Hawaii Yellow Sweet. Furthermore, in the wet season, this variety did not have a significantly more tender pericarp than did Philippines Yellow Sweet. More intensive evaluation of these hybrids for yield and eating quality must be done further before final recommendations are made.
