Abstract

The farm practice was conducted in municipalities of Baao, Balatan, Nabua and Iriga City, Camarines Sur from April to May 2009. The study aimed to identify the biophysical, socio-cultural and economic conditions of the different municipalities where the rinCOMESA members reside, document the existing practices by the members, identify the problem and constraints of the member in the adoption and implementation of SA, recommend possible interventions to help them in their adoption of SA and improve the SA program of RinCOMESA Inc. Study methods included personal interviews, focused group discussions, field observations and data analysis.

Farming is one of the major sources of income of the RinCOMESA members. After rice, the members commonly grow coconut and cacao for upland and major vegetables. The study showed that the RinCOMESA aims to intensify the organic production in their area through its members by providing them seminars and training. But the result shows that their members use the combination of chemical and organic inputs to increase yield. The major factors that affect their production are use of available resources, intervention of the government and non-government and years of stayed in the organization. The study also revealed the problems encountered by members in implementation of sustainable farming thus recommendations is provided for the organization such as member monitoring and assessment, intensified promotion of organic farming application of the animal manure in their production, more trainings and seminar to its member, use of intensified and diversified farming method and construction of drainage and water impounding system.
