Abstract

The mungo varieties were seeded in rows 50 and 75 cm apart during the dry and wet season, respectively at 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 and 700 thousand plants per hectare. The optimum plant population density for CES-55 in the dry season ranged from 400,000 to 600,000 plants/ha and from 400,000 to 500,000 plants per ha for MG 50-10A. A population density ranging from 300,000 to 400,000 plants/ha appeared suitable for both cultivars during the wet season planting. There was a noticeable decrease in number of pods/plant density was increased. Except for bean yield and height, plant density stand did not alter the other agronomic components studied.
