Abstract
C220 a high yielding upland rice variety, was evaluated under two seedling rates and four levels of management intensity to determine its agronomic response to management levels as well as to determine the best economic input combination of fertilizer and pest management for upland rice.
C22 as high level of management intensity produced significantly the highest yield among those at zero, low and medium levels. This can be attributed to more panicles, lower percentage of unfilled grains and lower incidence of stemborers.
Seedling rates such as low (400 kg./ha) and high (80 kg./ha) did not in any way affect the yield, percentage of unfilled grans, percentage of stemborer infestations and percentage while heads.
Over all results conclusively indicates that maximum yield can be attained at high management intensity level. However, the costs involved in this management level relative to the gross and net return per pesos invested were very high due to increasing costs of inputs such as fertilizer, herbicides and insecticides.
