Abstract

Forty F6 and F7 glutinous and non-glutinous lines of rice derived from ten cross combinations were grown in performance trials during the 1975 dry season, after their selection and isolation from the wet season plants of 1974.

The study was conducted primarily to compare the yield and yield components of glutinous and non-glutinous lines.

Both lines performed equally in terms of yielding ability, harvest index and plant height; however non-glutinous strains produced better results than

their glutinous counterparts in other characters studied. On the average none of the lines out-yielded the check varieties.
